I have a story to tell. Not a very interesting one, mind you, but a story none the less. It's a story about a guy(me), a bike, and a girl (ooh exciting)!
It all began about a month ago. I've been eyeing a new Ducati for some time, but just couldn't justify the price..... that is, until....
I happened to be browsing the local classifieds one day at lunch and what do you know, the very model I've been looking at is on there listed at $3000 below sticker for a new, 2015. Surely, I thought, something was wrong, but upon further inspection, it seems the dealer keeps one of each model around as a "demo" model for test rides and for the general manager to take to lunch when he's feeling spry. Once the demo model has outlived its' usefulness, Ducati North America rebates the dealer $2500 so they can pedal a "new" bike that's already racked up some miles, in this case 1500 or so. The dealer then fronted another $500 and there you have it. Sweet deal, I thought......so...
After getting my ducks in a row with insurance (a story for another time) and financing I found an evening I could go down and get the ball rolling on the purchase.
This is where I really got in trouble.
I pulled into the dealership just as the sun was setting, and what do I see across the parking lot? An absolutely stunning young woman (she's not as young as I first thought) sitting on an MV Agusta. I stood there for a moment or two, admiring the view then, thinking nothing more of it, decided it was time to go inside and get down to business.
About 45 minutes 'til closing there's not much action in there, and no salespeople in sight. So I wandered around looking at the swag and such, waiting for someone to appear. ....Have you guessed where this is going yet?..... Yep, the little gal from the parking lot walks in and asks if I've been helped. (smooth voice) "Why, no....No I haven't. But take your time, I'm in no rush." I say to her, without trying to oggle or stammer.
Things went well from there. As we went through the sales agreement and paperwork, we were clearly both trying to gauge the other without being obvious (so cute, isn't it?), and by the next evening when I picked up the new baby, we had a Sunday morning ride and breakfast date lined up.
It's now been a little less than a month and we've been able to see each other 4 to 5 times per week. Honestly, things are progressing a little quicker than I'm used to (I do live in Utah, after all), but it all feels comfortable and natural. She's an amazing woman, a gun toting, Ducati riding, coffee snob, and really, who needs more than that?
I went in for a bike, and came out with a girl! Which do you think will be more expensive in the long run?...hmmm
My apologies for the ramblings, but at this point, I'm still excited enough about it to tell anyone who will listen. And I made sure to put the pics of the bike at the END of the post...hehe...
