This is probably a simple question & I think i already know the answer, but I'll ask it anyway..
To swap the stock front turn signals with newer stock signals, does this require removing the top mount of the triple tree?
Didn't know if anyone had found an alternative or easier way to do this.

The turn signals come out of that aluminum fork clamp.....there is a Phillips head set screw in the bottom side that holds the turn signal in place.
If you want to remove the entire clamp and replace it with a new one......then you have to take the top caps off...as they hold the tubes in place on the top yoke. Then you can loosen the pinch bolt on the bottom yoke.....and slide the tube down enough that you can get the turn signal clamp off.
Put a jack or something under the frame to support take the weight off the forks when you do this, and do it one fork leg at a time so the front wheel is supported.

OK....there is JIS screw that looks like a Phillips. And you most likely can use a Phillips - but try the one from your tool kit first as it is a JIS and will not booger up the head of the screw.....like a Phillips can.

While still supporting the front wheel, can Instead of dropping the forks down, can the stem head be taken off & loosen the signal mounts & slide them up & then slide the new ones down into position?

The question here is,.. why are you replacing the clamps as well as the signals?...
...when you can just replace the signals?...
...
The signals unscrew from the clamps easily...

Yes...but you still need to put something under the frame to hold the bike up. When you take off the fork caps the fork springs are no longer under compression....and the bike will drop down until the forks are bottomed out.
Fumbling around with the handlebars and cables is a bit of a challenge....and with some handlebars it is tough to get to the fork caps with a socket.

Obliviously the frame i meant to type that in my last port, seems that my fingers just did not get the message from my brain... Its been a long week at work.
I need to replace the mounts, they look like crap. the chrome plating is chipped & pealing off.

The clamps aren't chrome, they are brushed aluminum...
The signal stems are a plastic chrome... they come with the signals, and are easily removed from the clamps via a screw...
