S40 engine swap
04/07/15 at 16:04:41

has anyone ever put an engine from another motorcycle onto a savage? i am interested in doing the cafe kit from ryca but i am a bit skeptical about the performance capabilities of the s40.
has anyone ever looked into doing this? what kind of difficulties may arise or what kind on mods may have to be done to the newer engine or the frame to make it work. any feedback will be helpful.

thx.     Smiley Smiley

with a stronger engine you need stronger brakes, stronger suspension, and a stronger frame, all of which you can get, more easily and less expensively, by starting with a faster bike
You can do anything, anything at all, with enough money and skill, the question is, is it worth it?

I have a Cafe with a modified Savage upgrade (piston, cam, carb, some head work).  It will make it to 100 mph if I ask it nicely.  The Savage frame and handling really wouldn't be able to handle much of an increase in horsepower.

It is fun bike....but doesn't handle like a sport bike.

I like the idea of a GS500 twin in a Savage Frame .   Vertically I'm sure there is room and the crank case's are about the same size ???   But I don't have a GS500 engine --- yet .   Roll Eyes

Ride of a Savage and power curve of a 500 twin !  Shocked

I'm sure you could shove all sorts of engines into the ryca. Wouldn't be any worse framewise than those old over powered under framed UJMs from the 70s and the brakes, while not amazing, get the job done. I kinda like the giant single tho....
A brit twin would look nice in there but no real performance gain, just pain.
How about a modern Bonneville engine? That will get you noticed.
