Kris, I forget exactly where in TN you are, but I can get the right exhaust studs (stainless) and the right lock nuts (brass) locally. Treat the Savage/S40 exhaust system as if it were as delicate as the one on a 1930s-1960s Mopar L6. If you can get marine grade silicon-bronze metric fasteners, use them, they don't gall the case threads and they rarely, if ever, have corrosion issues. Barring that, use aircraft grade hardened stainless steel fasteners. Anything else is a waste of money, unless you are rich enough to buy titanium fasteners.
Oh, and on a large bore single (or V twin) safety wire is your bestest buddy...
