Radio Shack out of business???
03/12/15 at 12:33:12
Honestly had no clue. They're apparently closing like 1700 stores and are liquidating inventory. I have speakers in my 3/4 helmet and one has blown. Wanted to pick up a new set and upgrade/replace the current ones. Pulled up to the store with the big closing everything must go signs. They didn't have the speakers as the store was rummaged pretty good. Did however pick up a wire kit with 1000 parts connectors and such for 6 bucks. Grabbed a few spools of wire, some resistors and other odds and ends didn't spend over 20 bucks. Would have got more just couldn't think of anything else to buy.

I hardly ever go to RS but when I need something that they sell, it's the only place around that has it. Gonna miss 'em!

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

A couple of weeks ago I tried to stop at our local Radio Shack to get a battery that is a bit of an odd size, and it was no longer there. I just figured it was the local store....that plaza is not horribly busy. I didn't know that they all were being closed.

It is an end to era, what will be next Sears? They haven't been doing well for decades.

I was really surprised a couple years ago when I stopped into a K-Mart, and saw they had Craftsman tools!

K-mart bought out sears.... that's why they sell craftsman tools now, and all of craftsman's electric power tools are now made in china.... not sure about the wrenches and screwdrivers though.
We have two radio shacks in town, the one in the mall is about out of stuff, half the store has been moved forward and the one in downtown station only had a few items left...and most of those were returns, the packages were all messed up and crinkly.

Haven't seen one of these in decades. I had a ram skin I enjoyed for many years.
I remember Radio Shack when they were a great place to get a home stereo,
That they held on this long,,, well, it's sad,
People don't build radio or repair things,, disposable everything..
NAFTA, all of it...

Ha I was super surprised. Radio shack is an iconic store. When I googled to see what's up I saw a page that had all the major stores that are in or filing bankruptcy and sears was on it as well. Things just won't be the same without these stores!
For you old timers in the southeast I miss Scotty's harware. Grew up in that store every weekend darn near buying home improvement stuff to help dad build his dream house. Then we would go next do to Western Auto and grab parts for his Chevelle. Then run across the street into J Byron's and grab mom some housewares and stop in Winn Dixie and grab something for the grill. It was a Sunday ritual for most of my childhood.

I remember the ads for them.
Sears left our state a few years ago. We can get Craftsmans tools at Ace hardware.
I learned to program on the TRS 80 Model I (at school) then the Model II. I taught BASIC on the Model IV (portable). This was all before IBM made the PC. I had a Realistic tuner and speaker set in High school, that lasted through college ( mostly because I was not home). RS was where I went for odds and ends even those used on my motorcycle.

I still have a Heath Kit timing and dwell meter. I miss my old points and condenser......or maybe I do not.

We had those at school but we called it a TRaSh 80. It was hooked up to a DuMP 120 printer!
