TeflonTape?
03/07/15 at 09:13:54

So I've been mulling this over in my head for a couple of days now.  I have a brand new fuel tank and am installing a new fuel valve.

I will have to remove the fuel valve at a later date for paint.

Does anyone think Teflon tape is necessary/helpful on the threads on the valve that screw into the bottom of the tank?

Suggestions/recommendations are warmly welcome.

depends if it leaks or not.   Huh

I wouldn't say it's harmful.

Hmmm.  Good point.  Seeing as this is a new tank and new valve.  I hope that's not the case!  Perhaps better to be safe than sorry.

I guess there really is no harm if I put some on there to be sure?

use a product called"fuel lube" every wrench should have a tube it has hundred's of apps i am going to use it on the big gasket on the side to access the timing chain you will be able to take it off and on 3 or 4 times without replacing it and it is a great sealer .
it is going on the whole mating surface and o ring and bolts of my raptor thing when i install it.

Phil,

Back in the olden times I used Teflon Tape on the petcocks of British motorcycles to stop the seepage from leaded fuel. It worked good.

Thanks all.  Found some Teflon tape recommended for fuel applications.  Went to use it and as I threaded the valve into the tank, it came right off.  Threads were tight!

Guess I won't be needing it after all.

Thanks for the advice.

Yup!  Sad

Seems to be solid though.  No leaks yet so I'm not going to worry anymore.

Has to come back out to be painted so may try again.
