It's almost warm enough to start turning wrenches... the big brown truck has been making regular visits...  

First thing is to pull the tensioner and send it to Verslagen for modding.

So far I have:
New (to me) mirrors from a 2006 thanks to a member here.
New hand grips
New SS braided brake line
New brakes front and rear
New turn signals - relocating fronts to handlebars
New all steel headlight bucket
New AGM battery
Waterproof USB port to keep phone/GPS charged
Moving ignition key to tree - next to USB port
Have Lancers' jet set for tuning

All told, the old gal is getting a freshen up and some new goodies... can't wait for riding season to get here!

Well it is -7 here today.....but the garage is a nice toasty 60 inside!

So I have been spending a lot of time in the garage.

If your grips are rubber (not foam), I have had very good luck with WD40 for mounting them.  Spray a bit on the handlebars and inside the grips (not too much just a light layer).  The grips will slide on easily and can be slid/rotated around easily.  Then in about a day the WD40 goes away and they are stuck tight.

I've been wrenching in my garage all winter. It's not a heated space but is insulated. I have windows that get all day sun so even when it's cold out (down to 30F) it's warm enough to work in there comfortably, saying around 45-50F during the early evening hours. Even on cloudy days it stays comfortable if the outside temps stay above 40F.

But this February...man...it's been very cold. Lows in the 0 to -15 range and daily highs only getting into the teens and low twentys. I've never seen it so cold for so long. As a result my garage has been in the 35 to 40 range all month. There have been a few evenings where after 10 minutes of work I find myself shivering so much that it's difficult to hold a wrench. This has really slowed the completion of my CS-1 project. I only have minor things to complete, but items that require curing like side covers and tail light are just gonna have to wait a few more weeks. Wiring the bike in these temperatures has been a challenge because the wires resist being moved into place. And sorting out and hiding wires on the CS-1 is a real pain in the butt.

When I disassemble the bike for paint I'll be sure to do it with warmer outdoor temperatures.

Got warm enough today to do some wrenching.  

Would have pulled the cam chain tensioner, but couldn't find my oil drain pan. Oh well, got a few other things done, biggest being the new front brakeline. That braided SS line is amazing, the firmness and solidness of the front brake is now 100X better than before. Also put my new handgrips on, and cleaned/lubed the clutch and throttle cables. The very last item was to thread on the takeoff mirrors I got from WillD.

Still got a lot more to do, but today was warm enough to get started.

70 degrees in Wichita today. Forget turning wrenches, I spent my motorcycle time in the saddle.

Lifetime warranty and Made in America. Can't say how great they are compared to good lines, but on my 1987 Savage with the factory brake line... HUGE improvement in brake feel. But a lot of that could be due to how bad the factory line was getting.
