Got my clubman bars on
03/04/15 at 13:31:43

Had some free time today so I rolled the bike out of storage to tear down for my verslagen1 tensioner to be installed and decided to put my clubman bars on. Bought the bike with a set of 4" zbar setup that I'm assuming came from RYCA with the bobber kit. I wanted the look and feel of clipons and decided to go clubman since I found a set for 19 bucks on eBay and 38mm clips ons are 40ish for the cheapest ones. Now I just need to shorten my clutch and throttle cables to clean up the front end.

Once the new and improved tensioner is in she will be rideable. Short list of things to do and finish before I'm happy but all in all I bought her for 3200 in rideable condition with as far as I've found just an out of spec cam chain adjuster. Seems like Ray Charles did the wiring when the kit was installed! Wires are everywhere and most of them were just taped at the joints. I've gone through most of it and either soldered or properly connected them. I wanna see if I can have a local build shop fab me up an exhaust that turns down the back side of the clutch cover and exits out and a bias cut like some Harley pipes would. I could probably do it myself since I'm just gonna rewrap the pipe when it's done. Just need to figure out baffling. The PO already drilled out and adjusted the fuel mixture and jetted the carb accordingly for the exhaust that's on it so I should be able to get away with some sorta open pipes. The exhaust that's on it now is a RYCA special and loud to say the least so noise won't be an issue. Tired of burning holes in my pants!

Do you plan to ride with the OEM forward controls, or do you plan for a set of rear controls?

Riding with clubman bars and forward controls means pressing on your jewels far far more than is required ...  Roll Eyes

With the bobber setup and the stretch it's actual quite comfortable. After a few rides I may not feel the same way but for now it seems like it's good. The previous bars had me stretched out a bit. With the grab point of the clubmans it's more of a "lazy" position and seems to be less stress on my arms. Once the tensioner is back in and the bike is 100% I'm gonna go hit Glendora Mountian Road which is an almost 30 mile canyon run that's about 60 miles from me so I'll have some extended seat time and can make a better judgement. On looks alone ill deal with a somewhat uncomfortable ride. It is a hardtail so there's no Cadillac ride already.

Okay, I'm old. The music is too loud, And the bars are upside down and bakkerds.
