wonder how they separate the pieces?
and would it be cheaper to hire about 30 people to take them apart and keep the parts that are in good condition to sell? all the while separating the different pieces into bins for plastic, iron, steel, aluminum and foam.
That particular vehicle looked like it had some serviceable parts on it...

I have seen these kind of things on the "How Things are Made" program.  They dismantle these thing in the shredders, and the conveyor then transports the "mulch" to a processing station where they can separate the steel/iron with magnets.  Following that the process gets really high tech - the mulch travels on a very fast conveyor and is "X-Rayed" to determine what is metal and what is not - then as the mulch comes off the end of the conveyor and begins a free fall - little blasts of air are used to deflect the individual particles into different chutes or bins.  The aluminum/copper/brass are saved - the "fluff" is sent to a landfill or some other process.
