I will try that next.
I did have the carb off and opened up the fliat bowl. Sprayed/cleaned everything with carb cleaner, but didn't take the floats off. I will try that nest and look for the little filter.  Adding an inline fuel filter is next on my list.
Thanks.

Adding inline filters can make the fuel flow worse - the filters can cause air bubbles in the system that block the flow of fuel.  Unless you have a problem with rust or dirt in the tank....I would not add one.  The petcock has a fuel filter screen built into it...and the carb also has a filter above the seat for the float needle.  Adding a 3rd filter is not really necessary in my opinion.

And yes...it is definitely time for you to take the carb off and give it a good cleaning.

Would not make any mods till it's running.
All the starting and not riding IS gonna drain the battery and it'll turn over but not fire up.
The inline filter can be a problem, the petcock has a screen, the bike runs for decades without an added filter

Good plan, you'll need a volt/ohm meter for checking stuff, anyway. HF has good enough, cheap.
I'd get it in neutral and roll it.

Have you drained and replaced the fuel yet?,... as JOG asked 10 posts ago?...
Undecided...

You are not giving us accurate information... first, it was shutting off as soon as you release the clutch,... then, idles fine, but won't accelerate...

Don't add a fuel filter... it's one more thing to go wrong...

Serowbot, I haven't drainednthe tank yet. I have drained the carb twice and all seems clear and good. When I get wome time, I will drain the fuel and and add fresh fuel...
next step im going to take is to take the carb off take the floats off and check the filter behind it.

I will keep you posted on the progress.
Thank you all for the advise.

Sounds like something is blocking the air from entering the filter. I've had the same problem and removing the seat revealed some electrical wires were blocking the entrance to my air filter.
It choked everytime I let go of the clutch.

So the problem may have been solved.... I had a issue with my coil wire breaking or being cut months ago. I ordered a new used one and was replacing it today.  What I notices is that one of the leads was broken.  I made a better connection and crimped the wire down tight, added a bit of conductive addhesive anD installed the new coil. It fired up fine. Took it out for a ride with zero problem!!!!
I'm going to ride it to work tomorrow. Give you guys an update after I do...

Keep you fingers crossed!
