Loose clutch
01/21/15 at 14:34:28

My son has a 2005 S40 (LS650). He replaced the clutch plates (one was warped, did not check thicknesses). Now the release arm is loose. It is as if the push rod is not out far enough. The rod measures 45.5 mm, so that is ok. When tightening the release plate bolts, does the release plate bottom out on the hub? What would cause the pin to sit away from the cam release?
Thank you for your help.

The pin should stick out 12mm.

It's  possible that the clutch pack is hung up in the basket or the bevel ring isn't sitting right.
Loosen, but don't take apart.
shift the plates around (hope for the best) and reassemble.
