Buying crankshaft with dust

Guys, need your help.

I need to replace my crankshaft (Suzuki Savage 650), I found one locally, but it's kind of rusty, not that much, but you can tell, other than that, it looks complete (it has the connector as well).

My question is, is it possible to remove the dust from these kind of pieces?, I'm assuming you actually can since it's metal and just like nuts and bolts, you are able to do it with some oil or vinegar or baking soda.

Thoughts?, I need to buy it, cause it's a steal!!

Dust wipes off... rust pitting don't...

Where are you located?... Humid location?... or dry?...

Why do you need a crankshaft?...
Crankshaft damage usually comes with additional gifts... Huh...

I'm from Mexico, so it's a dry location, I need a crankshaft because I got my bike serviced (carb cleaning and details), but  I also wanted to see what was going on with the clac-clac sound in the bike.

The dude who serviced the bike told me I was gonna need a crankshaft eventually (not soon, but I have to keep it in mind)

He told the connector was fine, but something about the crankshaft itself was not, and therefore was causing that noise, eventually would stop moving (I don't know the english term, but you know what I mean).

So basically that's it.

PD Also, my savage is a 97 model, can I get a 2000 crankshaft?, thanks!

I'm no expert, but there's a lot of other things that can go click-ity clack on a LS650 other than the crankshaft.
I'd say get another opinion on the noise before laying down cash for a questionable part.

I guess you already know that a crankshaft is not something you can just whip out and pop another one in there? It's kind of the first thing they put in the engine then build the rest of it around it. Big job. Be easier to find a good replacement engine. The con rod (connector) is a one piece with a roller bearing inside. You can't service this part without pressing the cranksaft apart and back together, not something you can do at home so much. And you'd be mad to install a crank with the old bearing, especially if you found rust on other parts.
Also: take advice from the service dude at your peril (unless he's got the Knowledge about Savages). The guys on the forum are more likely able to help with advice.

Interesting, cause I was confirmed by 2 different guys about it that it's in fact a cranshaft issue.

But I wanna bump this.

My model is a 97, found a 2000 crankshaft, how to know if they are compatible?

Check your other thread.  It's more than likely not the crankshaft. It's probably the cam chain tensioner. They make noise when they wear past their limits.

Go to You Tube and type in Suzuki S40, there are videos of peoples cam chain noises and you will be able to listen, see and perhaps judge. The tech smart round here may be able to refer you to individual posts or videos.
