Arrow thingy on gas cap

So what is the meaning of the arrow (actually it's a little triangle) on the gas cap? I always install my cap with the 'point' pointing up (or forward) out of habit.

On my '08, ya have to point that arrow up or the notches on the cap don't line up with the cut-outs in the tank.
I think it's just for guidance.

That's the way it is on mine too.  The arrow is an alignment mark.  The cap won't fit if the arrow isn't facing forward.

Yes that is correct.

However, their is a added benefit.
That, 'arrow', ALWAYS  points to the direction,
you are driving !
