Carb vent tubes

Responding to a topic in the tech section.. http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1311197310

arteacher, Are there a couple of ports in the stock airbox where these two tubes go? I don't recall seeing them. Can you indicate where they are? My two tubes are just routed up and dangling over the engine. Seems risky as I have had an incident of gas puddling. I'd prefer to route them to the airbox if that's what's intended.

Thanks, David.

Would you prefer to have an airbox full of gas...
or know immediately that you got a problem?

Versy, Having gas pouring over a hot engine seems kind of dangerous. If the tubes were meant to be routed to the air box, they would drain to the bottom. I'll leave it if that's what the design is, but I wanted to at least know..

If the vent tubes have been routed to the airbox either it's new or it was done by the PO.

If it's a mod, then it will cause some quirky running.

BTW: the airbox doesn't drain unless you leave the plug out.

The tubes vent air....not fuel.  If the fuel ever comes out of those tubes - it means your bike is very nearly upside down.   If the float bowl should overflow for some reason with the bike upright....the fuel will run out the main and needle jet and flood the engine and air box with fuel....fuel will not flow out those vent tubes.

This carb doesn't have any way for fuel to overflow out a drain if the fuel in the float bowl gets too high.  Some Mikuni carbs do have an overflow drain......but not this CV carb.

OK, Thanks guys. I thought fuel could come out of the vent tubes. I never really did explain my gas puddle, other than some pressure built up and vented out somewhere. I'll leave the tubes where they are.

David.
