Thought I would see if my new camera could catch the stars.....

Too much moon, will have to wait for a darker night and hope to catch the milky way  Smiley

I found using black and white for the night sky produces better pics at least for me.

I worked on one hole for 9 months.. Got to see the night sky change through the seasons, got so I could look at Orions belt and know the time within 20 minutes. The only lights out there were the rig lights. It was an hour or more out in the desert from the little town we stayed in. Notice driving at night, coming up to a town, you see a dome of light.. you need to get out side of that.. to really see the sky.

I need to give a try by going way out into the country (out of this city I live in) and use my camera and set the exposure time to longer times and see what I can get.

What type of camera is it raydawg?

Used to take Dads Polaroid, out in the pasture.
Aim it at the North Star, on a tripod.
Smallest F-stop, Infinity, Shutter open.

Then after, 1/2 - 2 hours.
Close the shutter, develop the film.
And would have little 'curved' streaks of light,
the N Star being the smallest.
(Length of the curve, relative to length of exposes)

And even one in a while, a very slight streak across the photo.
First time I saw it, thought it was a scratch.
Later learned, it was Sputnik.

Wonder if the digital cameras, will capture the earth moving,
(as per the stars), or just try to compensate, by making everything lighter?

Ben Franklin once said: "If you give up a freedom, for the sake of security, you will have neither".
Which is More TRUE, today, than yesterday.('06, S-40, Stock) well, mostly .

I use one of the new X series by Fuji,  XE-1. It is mirror-less, light and looks retro, I really like it a lot, and the body is around 500 bucks, lens run about the same, great tech support too!

Look here, on sale, and a kit for only 700  Kiss

Google it, you will be astounded by what people capture using new technology
