What do you think the cost of running a float charger all the time is? I'm curious.

A REAL float charger only kicks in when the battery NEEDS current injected into it to maintain its voltage, so, IF its a generally healthy battery, it costs about nothing.. BUT, IF a guy parks a bike for a few months and does nothing and the battery dies and has to be replaced, well,, that would have bought a quality tender And paid to run it... Cost becomes relative..
