With the Verslavy, you wont have to take the head cover off, and you get another 10,000 miles out of that chain. Replacing the chain is pretty involved - figure 3-4 hours of reading and picture looking before you grab a wrench.
To swap the cam chain tensioner, you need to have the clutch cover off. So, with just that off:
- check the clutch spring tension wear.
- clutch difficult to adjust? Replace the push rod with the larger size to compensate for clutch disc wear.
- install a dyna muffler
- stick a magnetic rod in to the engine case and see if you can catch some loose slivers of steel.
- new oil filter.
- clean and lube the brake spring and cable.
- be sure to use anti-seize on the exhaust header bolts.
- treat yourself to a shiny new clutch cover gasket
