Verslagen: thank you. I'll ask Evan about swapping it out. But not before

Serowbot: The air filter is on the list. Will check it out before anything else. It's a stock filter and has been cleaned lately but it could have gotten dirty between now and a few months ago.

Bluesman: There's been at least 4 different plugs swapped out in the past 2 months. I wish I just had to switch back to the stock from the Iridium I used to replace the original

Update:

Bike starts alright now. It doesn't start like it used to but it'll start up in no more than 4 cranks. New Softail muffler makes her sound like a real bike now! It pops on decel but I'm not too concerned about it at the moment.

They mentioned the valves and timing might need adjusting in another 5k miles but look ok for now.

Thanks all for the help!

Suzuki recommends CHECKING the valve clearance once a year or every 3500 miles. They may or may not actually need to be adjusted. It isn't that hard to do yourself:

Timing is not adjustable.

Noted. From what I've seen, the hardest part is getting the timing port cover off.

Keep that idle speed up or the motor will be scrap.

Will do! I've never heard it slow but it can't be good for a single cylinder engine to idle slow.

I put the Raptor petcock on and sealed of the vacuum port on the carb.  The LS 650 wouldn't start.  Replaced the old petcock and vacuum line.  Savage fired right up.  Any ideas?  A troubleshooting process would be great!  I'd really prefer to use the Raptor petcock.

Hope this thread is still good.

Thanks . . . .

I had same issue with not starting...cleaned the carb 3 or 4 times...ended up being the carb float.  Seemed to be moving up and down but it has to move alot...mine was not moving enough to get the gas flowing.  Make sure you float is not stuck.
