I would be cautious of doing that. They are cast with the curve in place and you might be able to heat them up to straighten them out but in all likelihood the chrome plating will wrinkle. If you have no other use for them it might be worth a try, though.

Maybe carve a curved shim to fill up the open space. If could be wood or plastic.

Another option might be some thick foam mounting tape or dense weatherstripping foam. With adhesive on both sides. These might fill in the gaps.

These would leave then emblems curved, which might make it look even cooler than a flat emblem.

Looking Good!

If you have time and patience....you most likely can get the emblems to match the shape you want. If you can put the emblems between two flat pieces of plywood, and gradually coax them into relaxing the curve. You could put some long screws and wing nuts through the plywood and around the outside edge of the emblems....and snug them up a little at a time. I have a friend that uses his car as a "solar kiln"" for things he wants to heat up a little at a time without getting them too hot. It might take a month to reshape them....especially since it is winter and you may not get much heat in your car. Placing them over a heating vent this winter might help.....just be careful not to get them too hot or crank the screws down too tight all at once. Also place something on the shiny side to protect the chrome from being damaged by the wood....something smooth....like aluminum foil. Don't get it up to the temperature that melts plastic....just warm enough that the plastic will gradually relax.

Since the curve of the emblem does mimic the curve of the tank maybe keeping the the same profile of the emblems on the side panels is the way to go. Recently built a new PC and have a few of those threaded stand off 1/4 to 3/4 extensions used to mount the motherboard in place. Tempted to just epoxy a couple in place on back of them and attach a couple of screws through the fiber-glass side panels.
