Wolf, As long as the rod does not ''give'' you should be able to push or pull to activate the brake. Pushing changes witch is the ''leading'' shoe, but I think it is built pretty symmetrical. Just stand on it from the side and you can easily tell. I did years of ''punch out'' working construction, now I always ''see'' what could be a problem. I look at a 3000 brick wall and only notice the 2 crooked bricks. Guess it's sort of a pessimistic curse.
