Posts: 1217 Riverside, CA Gender:	Mystery Clamp 09/29/14 at 09:24:44 A clamp that is not referrenced in the repair book has broken, it seems to be there to clamp to itself but maybe someone here knows what it is for. It was on the exhaust pipe near the front of the heat shield.

Then the other side, which is broken off goes up under the heat shield, the broken off pice still there or fallen off. Been riding for a couple of weeks and the shield is still tight and the muffler to exhaust pipe clamp is still tight and holding...

The other half goes way up and under the heat shield. Must be a redesign that isn't in the books yet... Thanks everyone!! On a side note, I wonder what is keeping the heat shield attached to the bike...

If I recall correctly when I removed mine...those screw thru the muffler brackets into the shield and tie in the heat shield to the muffler. Hard to see if you can't get behind the muffler to see them.

That clamp is from the front of the muffler heat shield...it used to clamp onto the header and yours is broken off the shield...it used to be attached. The muffler has two bolt holes and 2 bolts (part number 11 in the parts diagram you posted) that attaches to the top of the heat shield....that is what is currently holding the shield to your muffler.
