Weather permitting, I'm planning on making a trip involving the Augusta ferry on the 25th with my bike's previous owner. Although we will be coming from the north of Cincy.
Saturdays off are rare for me, so they are looking forward to showing me some of the more fun roads of NKY.

I like the new ride, Blinky.  The 'wings are really nice long haul bikes just watch the lean in the twisties. The valve covers will drag (at least on the older ones) very very quickly after the pegs do.

Have a great time with it and be safe.

I sent a PM to Zar and Sjaskow to see if they can come on either day.

On Saturday there is a Car and Motorcycle show at the Alexandria Car show, and I was thinking about entering my Cafe' bike.....but the show goes from 10 AM until 7 PM....that is a long time to be sitting dormant on a really nice day for riding!

Sunday ride might be preferable for me as it then give me the option of going to the car/bike show......however it is not a deal breaker if we go on the ride Saturday, as I would rather be riding than just standing around.

Dave,
Sunday actually works just a bit better for me also, but I can make either day work.

Good hunting

Sunday is the tentative date.....I will be out of church and ready to leave by 10 AM - however it is supposed to go down to 39 degrees Saturday night and we might want to wait for a little bit of a warm up.  I got enough bags n the bike that I can bundle up and strip off layers as needed....the high is supposed to be 57, and that is OK with me.

Anyone wanting to come along is welcome!

Ok, let's plan on Sunday. I have a new pair of Army surplus ICW gloves that I need to try out and a jacket and pants with thermal liners, plus a pair of ICW surplus boots so I am usually good down to the upper 40's. Plus, it seems to get very still behind the Goldwing's fairing and screen.

Do you want to try and meet somewhere near you about noon for lunch and go from there? I am open so let me know what works best.

Anyone in the greater Cincinnati area, chime in.

Dennis

What could be a really nice trip....if you want to include a Ferry Ride would be to meet in Maysville and cross over the bridge to Ohio, then ride up Route 52 to the ferry landing and cross the river over to Augusta, and we could have lunch there.  Then we could go up to Route 8 and ride the ridge through Campbell County for a while and see where the wind blows us.  Route 536 over to Rabbit Hash is a nice ride and there will be lots of bikes stopping there at the Rabbit Hash General Store.

Heritage Honda is supposed to open at 11 AM on Sundays, and it would be a nice place to meet as any waiting could be used for shopping.  They are located just a bit up the AA Highway (Route 9) on the northwest edge of Maysville.

If we met there a bit before noon we might be able to ride to Augusta by 1:00 for lunch.  If I don't eat by 2PM I get cranky! Angry

Dace,
"meet in Augusta and cross over the bridge to Ohio"

Reading the entire post, I think you meant to meet at Heritage Honda in Maysville. That sounds great. I will plan on being there around 11-11:30 Sunday. Looking forward to meeting you then.

Anyone else joining?

Blinky,

I don't know how true it is but I've heard that there are some air ducts you can open that will allow heat from the radiator to come back into the still air bubble around you.  So, you have heat.  Sorry I don't know if it's really true or not.  Would be great for cold day rides if it is.

Mine is way too old and wasn't even available with factory fairing so it doesn't have any such thing. Watch your toes. You can get them close enough to the header to burn the ends of your shoes unless it has more room there now. Mine always kept my feet nice and toasty on cold winter rides.  I rode my wing when the temps were in the 20's and it wasn't too bad.

Steve,
Thanks for the comments. The GL1500 has a set of air vents low on each side that have a lever to switch to warm air. I have not used them yet but I guess I will find out how well they work this weekend.

No chance of touching a header or much else on this bike. It is covered up with more plastic than a Lego factory uses in a month.

What one did you have? The 1100, 1200?

Good Hunting

I don't know about Goldwing folks.....but the ST owners call all that plastic stuff....TUPPERWARE!

What is this jabber about a "heater"?  Have you really looked at that bike closely....it might have a bathroom!

I had the gl1000. The first generation. 1976 model. No plastic anywhere except the faux tank and side panels.  I thoroughly enjoyed riding that bike.  One day, hopefully soon, I'll get to restoring it and get it back on the road.

The headers come straight off the bottom side of the head, go straight down a few inches then turn back and in.

Hey, when it's cold, any little bit of warmth is welcome.  That's one of those deals like rain with the still air bubble around you.  As long as you're moving, no problem. Stop and get cold or in the case of rain, wet.

Hope you have a great ride this weekend.  It's a little far for me to just shoot up that way for the day.  The baby ninja has been telling me it wants a nice long ride, though.

It looks like I can make the 11 am Sunday time in Maysville.  If it's still chilly, I can try out the heated grips and seat on the Vision. Smiley
