Couldn't find my key after work...
09/24/14 at 16:21:57
So I took apart the ig switch (1 allen bolt, 2 philips screws) took out the innards and taped it together in the "on" position ...
Headlight was on, neutral light on, still wouldn't start!
Then I remembered - you have to pull the clutch in!!
I made it home on reserve, fortunately, since I couldn't get the gas cap off

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

nice move. sure beat walking or losing some pride having to make that phone call.
on my truck i have a spare taped under the rear on a wire harness. you couldn't find it if i told you where to look...hence it's not in an obvious hide.a.key box.
which reminds me, i need to hide one on my bike
my dad used to keep a key taped inside a blinker cover that could be opened with a phillips screwdriver. i need to see if the savage has a similar spot.

I keep my spare key in the rubber fuse holder.
It's up under the right side of the seat.

Get yourself a small neodymium rare earth magnet from Radio Shack (where I got mine like 15 years ago)...tape or glue that bad boy to your key. Then stick to the frame somewhere hidden. I haven't lost a key since owning the bike....but I just leave it hidden on the bike and thats my only key
. So far no one has figured it out...so far...
I have thought about ways to make the Savage keyless tho...hidden switch, and then fire it up...but theres the gas tank...hmmm...

Never understood the point of a key on a bike, an anti theft device yea but anyone could push a bike into a truck or van.

yeah, I was pondering getting rid of the key- seems pretty simple to wire in a toggle switch in a fairly obscure spot.
A little more difficult to get into the gas tank without the key - fortunately I had a spare at home - buy if I lose that one I'm in trouble!
better just get another spare made

One of the great things about this bike is its simplicity. So you can actually do things like that.
I was working on my wife's Odyssey minivan a week or so ago ... so complicated!, there are about 1 million sensors that send info to the computer which then makes prudent adjustments to the fuel injectors or spark timing or whatever... Good luck trying to diagnose or fix a problem! In can guarantee that I could never get that van started without a key if I had a week to work it out!
Edit: checked at the hardware store next to work - didn't have any blanks, but said if I get a blank he'll cut it for $0 - looks like I can get a blank for $3.99 on ebay - I think that's the way to go instead of trying to un-key the bike!
