I put a, 'shim', between the idle screw, and the stop.
Attached it to a strong, 'string'.
When I start, (engine off), I just twist the throttle,
put in the shim, let go, Then start.
(I am their anyway, turn the gas on, turn the key on)
(Raptor Petcock)
By the time I get the helmet on, Jacket on.
It's running at a high idle. Then just coast down the drive,
(200 yards). Then when I hit the tar, accelerator opens,
and the shim just falls out, and hangs their.
Two reasons I do it this way.
1. Idle is COMPLETELY Different from a, Warm engine/Cold engine.
So I have my screw set at, what is about 1050 RPM, at a stoplight.
When Engine is WARMED Up.
2. I guess I am old school. and believe, 'Just' pulling the choke out,
(which will raise the idle), ALSO, Pores More gas, at a time when the engine does Not need it. (Choke= changing the amount of Gas into the engine, with out changing the Air amount)
(I suppose this comes from my experiences, of, 'older', ICE's, having a,
"Choke", and a, "Throttle" control).
Any way you want to do it. Adjust Idle on a, Thoroughly Warmed up engine. (To 1000+ RPM). (More is better than less). You want to get that Oil, RIGHT NOW, to the top of the engine.
So use the Choke, or shim. Your choice.
Now on the V800, I am just lazy. I use the choke.
(That one has a Carb also)
And any other, 'modern' MC, would probably do the same.
(Unless it is, 'injected', and a computer attached)
BUT, even if you have, a 2015 S40, IT is STILL,
a, 'old world' design. (Which I would have never known, had it not been for the very knowledgeable folks here, who are willing to share their experiences). So I use, 'old world', technique.
LOL,
Some here have told me.
'Just Use the Choke'. My Answer simply is. "
Some do, some don't".It is ALL your Choice !
The point is, Even that you have a, 'NEW' one.
You have GOT to have those RPM's at 1000 + when you start.
Well, unless you want to trade it in next year or so. for something else !
