did I get taken for  a ride?
09/03/14 at 13:25:44

Bought a 95 savage w/29,375mi. But advertised moter had been rebuilt 300 miles ago. Sounded ok @ first, slight valve tap type sound that got steadily worse. After about 60 miles of me riding the noise sounds like cam chain slap/grind, as well as valve tick. Time & labor- is it worth the fix, or should I get my money back?  Embarrassed

What did you pay?...  Are you sure the noise is camchain?...
How much oil does it use?...  Who rebuilt it?... What did the "rebuild" entail?... What's the condition of the rest of the bike?...
Too many variables... Undecided...

Type Suzuki Savage or Suzuki S40 into You tube, there are a number of videos where you can hear the engine running, this may enable you to make some comparison. There are similar posts in the Tech section of this site. If you have the facilities to video your own bike with the motor running you could post on here so the experts can make some sort of judgement call.

I got the bike for$1300 and it was just a slight valve tap sound. Its slightly weathered but not  in bad shape. But now the more youtube videos I see and hear, the more it sounds like CCT.the guy is willing to give me my money back or help me fix it. But I think he's more adept @ @dirt bikes. I prefer to work w/ another Savage owner. Love to ride. Love the style bike. And would really like to be able to just maintain an enjoy my self with it.

Buying a used bike is always a crapshoot...
You are lucky to have such a cooperative seller...

The two options the seller has given you, are more than generous...
The choice is yours...
