Look online for a video,or forum for whatever kinda machine it is.
Are you wanting to get the lever free of the swivel or the swivel apart?
What is it like on the back?
Some of those things are spring loaded and can be pulled apart, leaving a ball poking out on one side and a socket to be looked into on the other

apologies JOG I havnt been very clear - I posted a pic of a generic gear shifter setup from a Honda.
I have now stolen a proper pic of a savage gear linkage setup : ) and replaced.
anyway I just wanted to know if it's possible to get the ball joints off so I could give it all a proper clean. Also to make it easier for a mid controls mock up I'm doing at the moment. Are they pressed on?

From everything that I've read about these joints it seems they're pressed on. One guy recommended carb cleaner and spray-on white grease after cleaning, another recommended not messing with it at all but to replace the complete linkage with a new one if you're that worried about restoring it. Seen some on eBay for around $40... used.

For a detailed image of the link assembly check this out...

Could be of help.

Good luck!

Ok just bought a "new" one. Sometimes you try and fix stuff and you is just wasting time.

I removed mine and replaced the boots. I took off the screw that connected the shifter to the shaft after I marked it. I then loosed the front nut and the rear nut Front CC to loosen rear Clockwise to loosen. They came off as sets and the boot covered the rod. Pretty easy to do. S40 Guy
