replace muffler before road trip?

hi all!
BIG thanks to this community for helping me during my recent road trip and putting my mind at ease. i have another road trip coming up: colorado to florida. you guys helped me figure out my muffler is probably going while i was on my last road trip. the problems continue: more of a harley vs. suzuki sound, lots of backfiring on deceleration. the power of the bike is fine. the backfires range from fairly loud to small pops. nothing out of the ordinary- it is just happening way more frequently than it used to.
my question is: do you all think i can take it to florida like this? i'd rather ride it there and work on it when i get there- i sold my casa so i don't have a garage here anymore. what do you all think?
BIG THANKS for the feedback~

Have you checked the small nuts that hold the exhaust pipe to the cylinder head? Don't over tighten them, just use light pressure on the spanner and if you don't get movement leave well alone.

Where abouts in florida you headed? I live near fort Walton beach / Pensacola area.
You might need to reseal the exhaust to the header, or check the header nuts as suggested above.
If you are headed down further, I could possibly keep you company for a few miles if you would like.

the header nuts are tight. should i reseal the exhaust before i leave? it really doesn't bother me, but if i am doing damage i want to fix it before i go. old_rider- i am heading to sarasota, so i might pass your way! if so i would love to ride for a few miles. i'll let you know!

Not sure it hurts anything, mine pops and cracks on deceleration or if I let off the throttle quickly....
The wife's mom was from Bradenton/Sarasota area. It is about 9 or 10 hours from here if traffic is good.
If you have never seen the gulf coast, you should stop for a few and take a look....
If you are taking interstate ten, you will miss this area, as it is too far north to see the emerald green water and white sugar sand beaches.
Set up a post of your travels if you have time at the end of the day to post a couple pictures or a story or two....
