Motorcycle Packing?
08/24/14 at 18:41:05

Hey Hey Hey guys,

Been away for two weeks hiking in Vermont, so playing catchup here on the boards.

Over my time backpacking I was debating what to do with my winter as I run a seasonal business... And Decided on spending a month or two say end of December to end of February making my way across the US or Mexico or Canada or something.

Anyone have experience with this? Any routes or good places to pitch the hammock along the way? Stealth Camping?

Trying to get a feel for what the community does.

Where did you hike in Vermont? I did The Long Trail about 20 years ago. That made me want to do the appalacian trail but that still hasn't happened (probably never will). Anyway, I still do a lot of day hikes but not many longer ones.

My long trip at this point is only going to be about 196 miles on the bike. I have been puttering around the local towns lately, but this weekend will take it up to a friends house in Illinois to show her off.

Sorry for late responses, been slammed catching up with business Smiley

As for where I hiked, all over the state and dominantly on the LT. A friend is a caretaker up there and so we hiked the best views with his dad. I have hiked pieces of the AT, what started out as a through hike during winter ended with me caught in the "polar vortex" and two nights of jumping jacks and eating to stay warm all night while I hiked back to an area where I could hitch a ride...that burned me on long distance.

The keys sounds pretty dank!

I have done some 500 mile days but it makes me a tired boy...

In New Mexico, the SWAT team will gun you down for sleeping on "public" land and in Mexico they are still holding that American captive in federalle' prison so I'd say avoid those places and also avoid California just on general principle... Wink
