08/15/14 at 14:05:47

hey guys, ive got a front brake switch that has a missing piece of copper on one of the two slide contacts.  My question is can this be repaired somehow?  Or should I replace it??

I tried repairing a small part on my front brake switch ( 1988 ) and to be honest after several attempts ( and failures ) I bought the whole switch ,even though I only needed a piece of it. For your sanity's sake bite the bullet and go for a new one or working second hand one - unless your an electronics expert with all the kit and skills its not worth the heartache Smiley

is the copper rail still attached to the wire? mine has one that slips out of the board have to take it apart again and try epoxy on it and then just buy a new/used one if that doesn't work.

For $8 ( perhaps less ) buy a new one and stay safe.  You can't apoxy metal contacts together, it may stick but it won't work. You can solder the contacts together but the solder is soft and you have to cut into the plastic housing to do it.

The wire is still connected, one of the ears that go into the board have broken off. I have found a few on Ebay, but they are in the UK. they are going anywhere from $25 in USD.

Man, I build things and repair things. Ibuy epoxy in 4.5 ounce Bottles, 9 ounces of epoxy in total,, I have High Temp epoxy, JB weld, Devcon 5 minute, wood glue, 2 types( gel & liquid) super glue, soldering gun, 2 irons, 2 small butane torches, & an assortment of solder types, thin & fat, resin core, no rosin, fluxes, brazing & cutting equipment, all KINDS of tools & magnifying glasses for "Tiny Stuff",, & I wouldnt even bother with trying to fix that switch.. IF I had all the parts,, okay,, but apparently, youre missing a piece,, Heck with that,, Youll have Hours in it & for what? What if ya go to all that trouble & It Dont WURKK? Youre gonna be ticked,,
Instead, ride the bike, go place the order & youre golden.. JUst put some pressure on the foot brake so the lite comes on till ya get the part..

For the price of the switch see your local dealer and take yours with you.  The one in the picture also mounts inside.  They have to put it on the outside so you know what you need.

does anyone know of a part number for the switch? I need the number for the rail style one and if it is used on another bike? I found a salvage yard in Ohio that can get one cheaper than Ebay, but they need a part number....
