Paint Question
08/12/14 at 17:51:05

Found a local Automotive paint shop willing to paint my tank, fenders, and side panels. Is there a specific paint just for gas tanks or will any automotive product work? Huh

you'd be best off using 2 pak, including the undercoat. Automotive acrylic will dissolve when you splash fuel on it when you're filling up, plus it's a lot softer and scratches easier.
The spray shop will have no problem doing it with 2k paint, might cost a little more is all.

You want a base coat/clear coat system.

Shiny, gas proof, durable....and fixable.

Yes, any 2 part urethane/acrylic enamel will be fine.  Any paint shop that uses anything else is a joke of a shop.

No real shop will wait around for 1 part paint to dry when they can spray hot and/or bake it.

Any good automotive paint will not lift,if gas touches it(but don't leave it sit on there either).IF...it's prepared right. And do not paint the edge of the gas fill that it seals against the cap.
