CCT Swapped...
08/05/14 at 12:39:53

Sam's plunger was out 18mm, which turned out to be 2/3 of it's travel instead of 7/8 like in the 98 engine.  Huh

Swapped the modded version from the 98 into the 03, need to send 2 cores (and some funds) to get another one made up. On the very off chance I ever fix the 98 (sorely tempted to use it for target practice or just scrap it out).

Have some kind of odd lemon yellow fungus growing inside both engines.  Huh Looks like a cross between lichen and mildew, never seen that before. Must be something introduced by the oil, since Sam hasn't been apart since I've owned him.

Very tempted to pull the running boards, rear fender, headlight and exhaust off Pokey and swap them onto Sam, today, with a quick respray of the rear fender assembly and headlight shell from orange-cream to solid black. I truly despise the factory pegs and rear fender assembly, and since Pokey is inching closer to a trip to the metal shredder anyway...

No more noise from the  bottom or the top end.

Have to express order a clutch cover gasket, blew out half a pint or better of thick 20W50 dino juice in under a minute. Gray goop failed...  Angry

Oh, for what it is worth, less than 13K miles on the bike.... the 98 went 25K plus on the stock plunger...

And of course, BikeBandit is acting up, recognizes my e-mail addy as a valid customer, won't recognize the password I use for everything, "claims" it e-mailed me a new one (and has not)...

I'm about ready to squash both Savages and wash my hands of the entire mess.

EDIT: Both are in the marketplace. I'm done. Selling as pair only. As is, where is.

Kawasaki, Honda or Harley. Holding out for a VN800A, VN800 Drifter (found one for under $5K with 6700 miles on it, but it is hideous), VN1500 Drifter, VT1100 ACE or an FXSTS (Softail Springer with 21" front wheel) or Heritage Springer.

I don't suppose I could convince you to sell me the gas tank off your orange bike?  The '98 I'm guessing?  No biggie if it's too much of a hassle, but I dig that tank, if I'm remembering correctly...

Edit: Just saw the post in the marketplace. No parting out. No worries, sorry about that.

Cut a gasket out of Felpro gasket paper. Has been pouring the last 3 days, somewhat clear out this morning, heading out to do battle with the bolts and hope against hope that the engine ends up oil tight.

I may be stuck with the bike for awhile longer, the back up truck (85 C10 short wide) puked its brakes out on the way home last night. The other trucks are all down as well (92 Ranger-parts roach; 94 Ranger- won't start, electrical issue; 69 D100- needs wiring, new battery and licensed; 49 Dodge- needs everything; 87 C60-not street legal).

Have solid leads on somewhat affordable, close enough bikes. Really want the resto-mod 72 FLH in NW TN, but, it is a nosecone Shovel with a Wide Glide front end... only want it because it is the same year as the Super Beetle (and my birth year).

That Gray form-a-gasket has always worked for me .  Huh

1st.  apply thin layer to both sides
2nd  wait 15 minutes
3rd   put parts together with (just touching pressure)
4th   wait at least 8 hours
5th   gently tork parts together and DRIVE IT ANYWHERE . Cool

Have had the clutch cover off at least 20 times , Gray form-a-gasket works every time.

Some times waiting  is the hard part !  Grin

Heck  WD.   just trade it in at the "Stealer-ship" for the one ya really want !   Wink
You deserve it !  Go ahead and "Just Do It " .  Get a brand new one !

The Felpro gasket failed as well. Made it 2 or 2.5 miles and oil started pumping out of the upper case bolts. Limped it home, fixed the C10, drove to work. Lisa ordered a new OEM gasket for the bike this evening.

The factories haven't made a bike I'd consider worth buying new in almost a decade. VN800s were killed off in 2005 or 2006 (all 3 styles). HD Springer Softails were killed off. VN1500s were killed off...

Test sat Yamahas from 1100cc on up, no leg room, terrible egonomics. The Suzuki C90T looks good on the screen, in real life is a cheaply made hunk of junk. The C50 is too cramped.

The hunt is on for a UL or VL Big Twin Flattie (74 or 80 cubic inch), or an 80 inch Chief Big Flattie.

I pulled the 230 L6 for the 49 Dodge truck to where I can more easily work on it. You guys can have EFI, ABS, fuel injection, electronic ignition, OHV, OHC, CV carburetors and all the rest of that modern crap.

I've got a brother that has one of these and loves it :

probably didn't cost too much either .

I'm not a big fan of "Water Cooled" , but that's just me !  Huh

Can't even sit on sport bikes, let alone ride them. Good for maybe a minute and my legs go completely numb.

I want  both of the bikes gone. I'd rather drive than deal with either of them any longer, life is too short to ride substandard junk.

Something like the Sucker Punch Panhead below would be ideal, swap the front end out for a springer...
