Yep, it is a good oil.  I had a seen on other forums (KLR, SV650, Thumper) where folks claimed it was a great oil - but this is the first forum to actually show me why it was a "better" oil to use.  Just seemed to be wrong that a very affordable dino oil was as good as an expensive synthetic one.

Strange, but true! It's labeled for diesel engines, but it seems to work well in the Savage. That's all I've used and have no problems to report. I do change oil and filter every 1,000 miles, and that stuff comes out looking bad. That may seem excessive, but I'm OK with that.

1000 miles! That's a little excessive, ya think? That oil should be good for at least 3 times that.

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

Yup,.. I started out 6 years ago with this bike doing old school oil changes... every 1500 to 2000 miles... but, I was wasting money and oil...
New cars are recommending changes at 8 or 10k miles now...
It's not the engines that got better... it's the oil...
30 years ago,... cars went 80 to 100k before needing a rebuild... now they routinely go 300k miles...

I'm changing oil every 3 to 4k miles... (save the planet, eco, tree hugger that I am)... Grin...
Harley recommends every 5k miles... (and you know they want to sell you an oil change)...

Anyway... I think every 3k is plenty safe... (and I replace the filter every other change... not just to be stingy, but I figure steel screws will only tighten into soft aluminum so many times)...

JMHO...
FWIW...
WTFDIK... (What the f--- do I know)... Grin...

The older riders here on the list have all begun to run some longer oil change intervals, if they run a synthetic especially.

Adding to our confidence is the fact most of us ZDDP bump our oils to get up to the recommended "old school flat tappet" levels of 1300 - 1850 PPM, which means we CAN run our oil for a year without running out of additives (or in my case two years).

The real limiter on our oil changes is build up of silica (fine dust) that makes it through our sorry stock Suzuki air filter systems.

I have "better" air filtration than you do and I keep a big assed supermagnet sitting on top of my oil filter to stop all my ferrous material so my oil only builds up super fine silica dust over time -- and that silica dust build up says CHANGE IT AT LEAST EVERY OTHER YEAR.

Plus, the oil actually does begin to consume more freely in the second year as the molecule chains have broken down some.

Have always changed oil in cage, 3-4,000 miles.
Filter, ever other change.

MC, about 1,000 miles, filter every other.

Small engines, (Lawn mower, tiller ,snow blower, log splitter, etc)
Every Fall, “Then RUN for 1/2 hour or so), then snug up for the winter.
Then Spring, run for 1/2 hour, change oil & Filter if it  has one,
Then run for season. (Except for the snow blower, & Splitter, just opposite)

My theory is, Oil is a  LOT cheaper than a new engine !

And on the small things, what 1- maybe 1-1/2 qt.

Anything older than 20 years,  ZINK additive !!!!!
Even in the MANUAL  Transmissions Cages.
Just that a, special ZINK additive is needed for the LS/650-S40,
because of wet clutch.

And on above engine, using ONLY Rotella 3
