DMV (Department Of Motor Vehicles)
What a  Friking JOKE.

Every time,  EVERY TIME, I have to go their, it is a TOTAL JOKE.

If I could open up a DMV,  RIGHT NEXT DOOR to them,
I would cause them to close the doors in a month !!!!!!!!!

But, I can NOT.   Because the STATE, says:
“YOU will Pay the STATE, to open a  DMV,
and ONLY, if the STATE, says one is needed in that area,
and the STATE says, if their is one, you WILL  WAIT IN LINE, to,  ‘BUY One”.

2PM, walk in to do a simple transfer.
Two people behind the counter, two more in the, ‘Break Room”.
Two customers being served.  S   L   O    W   L   E   W ,
While I was waiting,  3 more people came in.

I wait,   Just as after I came to the counter, and started the, 'VERY SIMPLE' process, the phone rings,
the lady, (who had already punched in the title #’s and Motor #’s into the computer),
said:  “Just a Min’.   She answered, CLEARED all what she just had put in,
and started answering, all sorts of  Dumb a** questions, over the phone.

After 10 Min of this, I turned to the 3 people waiting behind me,
and said”   “Gee, I think we were all here BEFORE the phone rang”.

ANOTHER  5 min,  (for what should be a 3 min transfer of title)
She came back, put the SAME information into the computer,
stamped ‘verified’ on the title, and said that is 59.75.
I gave her 3, 20.00 bills.

Now,  HOW  MANY  TIMES, do you think,
one would have to punch,
60.00  - 59.75 = .25
Into a calculator ???????????

Well, she had to do it, THREE TIMES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All in all, what should have taken 3-5 min, took 30 min.

And OBTY,   The two in the, ‘break room’,  Just sat their.
Never lifting a finger.
After all, they get paid the Same, if they work or not.

All Curtsy, of a  GOVERNMENT  RUN   POS Agency.

And this same attitude, work ethic, is going to run, 'Mn-Sure',
(Minn's version of,  'King Bamma Care)

Ya, Right   LOLOLOLO  Grin

To add insult to injury, the DMV in my area is only open Tues and Wed from 8-5. How am I supposed to go if I have to work?  Huh

I think they need to change the name...from DMV to MVD...
Az DMV used to suck... then they change the name to MVD, Motor Vehicle Department ... and it works great...

Most things can be done on-line... and if you go in person, it takes minutes...

I don't know who's in charge of making these changes, but they should run the world...

When I go to the Clerk's Office to get something......if I can actually leave with what I came for.....on the first try.....I feel like I have scored a major victory.

When I went to get the title for the Honda, it was coming into Kentucky from Ohio.  I went to the Sheriff's Department and had the bike inspected to confirm the VIN and mileage, and that went great as the clerk was a Honda Goldwing rider up until his leg went bad - I could tell he would still have liked to own a bike.  I then went to the Clerk's office with a copy of the add for the bike that showed a $ 3,500 purchase price, a signed and notarized Bill of Sale from the lady selling the bike, the signed and notarized Ohio title that had the mileage and sales price listed on the back, and my proof of insurance card.  The clerk could not accept that $ 3,500 was the sale price, as it was not on the OFFICIAL KENTUCKY form.....she could only accept the selling price if I was going to take the OFFICIAL KENTUCKY FORM and have it filled out with the $ 3,500 price and notorized.....same as the lady selling the bike to me had already done twice on the BILL of Sale and Ohio Title.  Knowing that I could not contact the previous owner on a Saturday, and that once I did get in touch with her the traveling and getting to a Notary was going to take at least 2 hours....I told the License Clerk I would just pay the taxes on whatever they had as a "Blue Book" price.  She then attempted to find it online.....and could not find my bike.   I kept showing her that it was an ST1100....she kept asking for a name like Volusia, or Shadow....it took me a while to find out she thought my bike was a Cruiser and was not looking for a Touring bike.  The Book price was a bit over $ 4,000 and it cost me another $ 30 in taxes - but I was able to go riding with a legal license and registration that same day! Grin

The clerks work hard and are always pleasant here.....They just can't do anything if it isn't on that form.  I am having the same problem with that  little Honda S65 I bought from an estate sale.  I got a signed copy of the title, and a bill of sale for $ 500 with the court order that orders the sale for the settlement of the estate - but NO....I have to have them fill in the mileage and sale price on that stupid KY form......so it has taken several months to get that process through the attorneys and Executor of the Estate.

I guess we are fortunate here with the County Clerk in Fayette County KY. In the last 30 years, I can honestly say they have been very efficient every time I have dealt with them. I bought the C50 out of state and had the transfer, including the VIN inspection by the Sheriff, done and out the door in 25 minutes or so. Most of the issues I have encountered have been delays due to folks in front of me not having the registration, proof of insurance, or a title; just the attitude that they are there and their word is good.

Good hunting

Try going just a few minutes before closing, They want to go home so they get busy. I disconered the speed of the line increased dramatically at 4:45 back when we all had to go get our license plates at the3 same time,

The DMV, in the first post is 3 miles away.
(Close to the Twin Cities)
They have  their head so far up their A**, they can see daylight.
And this State,  Guarantees, their Complete Ineptitude.
By,  NOT ALLOWING, another DMV to open, within 20 miles.

Their is another one, 26 miles away.
(At the edge of a small town, Cornfields on three sides)
(The other one, 18 miles away, is  JUST AS BAD)

Some years ago, I bought a, ‘barn queen’,
a 81 Honda with 3,000 miles.
Totally, Completely,  Absolutely, Original.
(Of course it was, with matching Faring, Power Blue, with Pink Strips,
sold it to a lady, who loves it, and goes to ‘car’ shows with it)

Went to the first, DMV, and they would NOT Allow the Transfer,
Because the Moter Numbers Did Not Match.
(I even had a photo of the motor numbers)
They told me: “The motor has been replaced, and I need to have a 150.00 Inspection done”.
(Which was 200 miles away from me,
which was held, ONCE DAY A MONTH), to get a title.

I Went to the one 26 miles away.  Same info, Same title, Same Motor number.
After I gave her the info, she looked at me, asked:
“Is it original”,  I said: “Yes”.
She hit a few keys on her computer, and said:
“That motor number is not the same as the original title in 1981,
but I can see, someone, in 1981, must have just transposed two numbers”
“””” Here is your new title. “”""

(Motor numbers, in MN, are, ‘HIDDEN” and you can NOT  see what they are)

So tell me, WHY, is one so Completely, Clueless and Inept?
And another one, lives in the, ‘Real World’.
So WHY do I have to drive 52 miles Round Trip to transfer a title,
v.s., 6 miles R.T.
I PAY, for BOTH, through  TAXES.
They SHOULD BOTH, be the SAME !!!!!!!!!

Just a note: In Minn, transferring a Motor Vehicle,
No Longer requires, a, ‘inspection’.  (Used to).
And they No Longer require, ‘Proof of Insurance’, (Used to !!!!!!)
And now, to get current year driving, ’tabs’  NO PROOF OF INSURANCE  Required !!!!!!!!
And on a Motorcycle, the VIN must match the Motor number.
otherwise, a, ‘inspection’, is required.

If the same inconstancy , in DMV’s, (or the like), exists where you are.
TELL, your State Senator/Representative.
Complain,  BE the, ’Squeaky Wheel’.

Move from SC to OK; 2 trucks needed titles transferred state to state, plus veterans discount applied which required extra paperwork and processing, new tags; 15 relaxed minutes in local office  (locally owned private contract office)
3 bikes needed titles transferred state to state, new tags, 15 relaxed min. sitting in a cushioned chair in front of her desk chatting about the "goings on" in the town.
Very calm & laid back here but the services are quite efficient in Morris OK.

It has been pretty much this way with everything here in Morris.  It is a very small town.  Not only does everyone know everyone, but almost half of the town is related.  So it's like taking care of family.  Overall the services in this little town have been very efficient and pleasant.

All of the clerks at our DMV are hard workers and always pretty cheerful, they are just burdened with horribly inflexible rules......and state issued "form" that must be strictly complied with.  The form is filled out according to the rules.....and even then the State Office has the right to deny giving a title if they don't like something on the form.

A single form just can't cover every situation.....and the local agency should be able to make some variances when justified.
