Top speed HP calculator...

Here's an interesting calculator to estimate hp needed for different speeds...
For a Savage,... I guesstimated,...
.95 drag,
6 sqft frontal area,
480lbs for me and my bike,
= 34hp to go 94mph.... that's my top speed...
http://www.wallaceracing.com/Calculate%20HP%20For%20Speed.php

( I'm 5-8" 145lbs)... my bike is 340 and has narrow drag bars...
Input your own combined bike/body weight,... also add some drag and frontal area if you are big or have a big winshield... input 1.0 for drag... and 8 or 9 sqft for frontal area ...

Give it try, and see what you think...

Wink...

I think 0.8 cd is a little low for a bike with no fairings. 1.0 would probably be more of an honest number.

Per Kris' suggestion,.. I changed the drag c. to .95...
... and the Frontal area to 6 sqft...

I think Kris is correct,... these numbers are more realistic... Wink...

Serow, I'm right there with you on numbers, +/- a few inches/lbs for bars/weight. As i've had mine up to 85+ ( had to stop checking down at the speedo  around 83, it got a little dodgy/shimmy in it) I still had some room left in the throttle, gave a quick twist, felt it grab for more but backed down due to the shakes, I'd say we could run to 95 for sure. I think it's all stock, except for the Jardine.

Im not sure about this. Im 6'4 and 350 lbs. I dont add width to the bikes but i have had it to 85 without an issue. At that point it was creeping speed slowly. And i have a windsheild and small saddlebags

The fly in the ointment of all of this is if you are clocked, or using the speedo on the bike to quote the MPH.   When I first got mine I clocked my time at various speedo readings, and the speedo was "optimistic" at every speed except "0".   I just put a set of Michelin Commander lls with a 14/90/15 on the rear. Doing the math, I gained 6% in rear circumference over a "stock" 14/80/15 and over 8%+ vs. the worn IRC I replaced.    6% additional rear tire circumference will equal a reduction of 240 RPM at 60 MPH. (Factory spec. = 3940RPM @ 60 mph.)
