Electrical charging problem
07/06/14 at 14:38:06

2003 Savage with 11,000 miles.  Driving runs the battery down.  So I changed the voltage regulator/rectifier.  Same thing, after about sixty miles on a fully charged battery, drains the battery down and dies.  Checked the voltage at the regulator, at idle two yellow wires showed 9 volts and the third yellow wire showed 4 volts.  Revving the motor didn't change the numbers much.  Is there anything else I can check besides the stator? Does anyone know anything about whether the stators can be repaired or must purchase a new one?

if reving it up doesn't change the voltage (up to 100vac) you got a bad stator.

I concur with verslagen1, bad stator seems the most likely explanation.

They can be rewound with new wire, if you know exactly what you're doing, and can count accurately without being distracted.  I've never rewound a stator or motor myself, but I have wound a crystal radio, and it works!  Smiley

Search electrosport they have a troubleshooting model that is on point. My stator was bad at 15300 and it took me 10min to diaganose the issue. I bought their stator since it has 10% more output at low rpm. It is a direct plug n play.
