There is a little arrow on the handle, it's hard to see. You should paint it red.

The handle is the arrow. Point down until you run outta gas then spin up. Ignore the spot halfway between.

Thank you all for your replies.
Do I turn it to the off position every time I park?
I work 12 to 13 hour shifts...then there's overnight.

You should turn it off whenever you park for an extended period....just in case.  If your needle an seat are functioning properly you won't have a problem if you leave it ON - but if the needle and seat choose to leak it will put fuel in your air cleaner and crankcase.

When I am out riding I don't shut the petcock off when I stop to eat, enjoy the view, rest my butt......however I do shut it off at the end of the ride.

Technically Dave is correct. I never shut mine off except when removing the tank. Not even over the winter.

I just make it a habit whenever I stop the engine.  It is just now second nature to do...just in case.

Key switch off... gas off. You can make it an all in one motion. You've got a couple of gallons of gas ready to gravity feed into your engine (and could lock it up) or drip out an overflow tube and onto your floor if a piece of crap gets into a needle valve. Better safe than sorry. Getting used to  switching it makes it easier and faster to find the lever when switching to reserve at 60 mph. Just my 2 cents Cool.
