This is the crude "mod" some butcher did to my belt guard. Jeeesh!  Why would somebody do that?

Another angle.

(The oil and grit on the guard is from the oil plug leak on the engine, which I'm in the process of fixin'.)

Maybe they thought the belt tension had to be checked from the top of the belt..... Roll Eyes

Looks like it was done for tire clearance...
I chucked mine.... just useless weight anyway....(keep the tiny bottom one, it can actually keep debris off the belt)...
(that top one does nothing except potentially hold debris in)... Grin...

Dunno about you guys in the states, but in the antipodes a chain guard is a legal requirement on a motorcycle. I had it out with a cop a while back when he was giving my scooter a look over. I'd ditched the belt guard and he was gonna defect it. I pointed out that it's a belt, not a chain and the Rules say a CHAIN has to be covered, says nothing about a belt. I got away with that one. Grin. Not so the missing front fender or obscured number plate...  :'(

That one, does look like it was hacked for tyre clearance.

Thanks Yoshi!  I might just take it off.

But I had thought of putting my license plate on the rear curve.

We'll see...I have to get my engine back together first, having went after the oil plug problem and checking my cam chain adjuster.
