NOOOOB here!

What's up guys (and gals)!

This is my first post! Wanted to say HI and possibly get some insight!

I'm planning on building a savage, from the frame up. The reason I want to do this is because i'm on a budget 1, and 2 I want to know every part on this bike. I am planning on making it my pregnant dog and I want to know every inch of her. I have plenty of experience working on cars and a couple bikes but I've never done a complete build before so I'll need lots of technical expertise!  Wink

My first purchase was the repair manual for the ls650!  Grin

Now on to a frame.. I can't seem to locate a frame and engine with matching vin numbers on ebay or on here. I do still have to check the bike shop down the street tho, fingers crossed! I live in Vermont btw so there isn't much for local sales around here like craigslist and whatever but I'm keeping my eyes peeled.  Shocked

So I guess does anyone have any advice about getting a frame? OR engine? there are a couple engines on ebay but they seem kinda pricey, the frames on the other hand range from $200- $500, not sure why the big price fluxuation there??...  Huh

Well anyway Just wanted to say what's up! and let everyone know what I'm working on! Thanks for any help in advance!!  Grin

Check the tech section for known errors in the popular Clymer manual. Check the market place for bikes being parted out.

If you're planning on buying it piece by piece, plan on spending 10 times what it's worth.

In the tech section (link below) you'll find the buying guide... read away.

Oh and another thing... frame numbers don't match engine numbers ever.  Different numbering scheme.

Also in the tech section.   Smiley

You want to buy a ls650 in parts?

I have what you want, I just stripped a 1996 ls650
I pulled the motor out of the frame, it has 15k miles
Frame has a good PA title if you want it, come get it and I'll sell it to you

Welcome LOSO... Keep an eye on craigslist in and around your area. The Savage is a bit of a cult bike but once in a while they pop up. Be patient. You are better off starting off with a good basic bike and modifying it, in my opinion. I (and a couple of other folks on the forum) got a mid-2000's bike with low (under 3K) miles for about 2K. Higher mileage bikes are a risk if the previous owner doesn't have meticulous service records. This IS "THE PLACE" for information and advice and ideas!

I recently bought mine for $600 off Craig's List, 4,350 miles in great shape. changed the windshield, saddle bags, rear directional, foot pegs, and have forward controls in transit.  Brings the total to approx. $1,200
