HELP! Died going 65. Won't start.
06/19/14 at 18:32:19
I was riding along at 65 on my way home. Came to a small hill. Went up it and she died. Pulled over and tried to restart and a small fire ball came out. She will run at half throttle but runs super rich. Any help? She has plenty of gas also.

If you have the stock petcock try running it on "prime". If it runs, you have a petcock gone bad.

It does sound like a bad pet...

don't
just turn it to Prime..

Just curious. I havet replaced the cam tensioner. I havent even looked at it. Ive had the bike for about 2 months now. If that did go bad. Is it possible that my cam chain skipped a tooth?
I wonder that because when I take the fuel line off, Fuel runs free. Besides a new pet that I know I need in general, I will take the carb off and give it a once through. If all that dosent work is the cam chain my next course of action?

Pull the vacuum line to the petcock....the smaller of the two hoses. If the diaphragm has gone bad, it may be running fuel directly into the engine through that hose.'
Do the petcock test that was provided to you in the link on the previous post.

I have seen a lot of issues regarding petcock with this bike. I have an 2011 with 1700 miles bought used. Runs on prime, but also on reserve. I was under the impression that the reserve uses the vacuum as well, so why would it work on reserve and not "on" Also, are these petcocks not serviceable? I can't find a rebuild kit anywhere and nobody on the forums suggests repairing them, just buying a new one, or a Raptor. New to this bike and I apologize if I'm asking questions that have already been answered.

The real reply is that for the cost of the rebuild kit you can buy a raptor petcock and then never have any of the problems again. Rebuilt petcocks have the issues all over again after enough time goes by, so rebuilding them isn't the best of ideas.
I don't think anybody here has ever recommended buying a replacement stock vac actuated petcock, they cost $69.00 last I saw a price quoted.

I did find a kit and it's listed in the tech section.
but unless you have a totally stock intake/exhaust it'll be unreliable at best. any mods will reduce the vacuum making the problem that you're having now... reserve works because of the higher fuel pressure helping the vacuum. but you still run short of using the whole tank and have to switch to prime.
as noted, for the cost of the repair kit, you can get a genuine raptorcock and be done with it... except for the constantly forgetting to turn it off and worry about flooding your crankcase with gas.

Sailor Colin, before you fit the Amazon Raptor make sure it's the genuine one and not a Chinese knock off, I can't give the part number but someone here will. Some Raptors have smaller diameter pipes than others.

Got a Yamaha Raptor from Amazon. Didnt fix my problem. So i decided to start digging.Checked all the wiring and then, after removing that tank I noticed that the Decompression valve was out of wack.
Thought that may of fixed it, NOPe! I then decided to take off the carb and give it a look over and cleaning. Found a little water in the float bowl and!
Bamn! the priming jet vibrated off! Who knew! But she is back together and works great!
