Great news !!

I took your advice about the yellow and green wire and sure  enough it was intermittent coming from the decomp unit.
After giving it a couple good whacks against the frame it started working every time.  Now I can pick up a new decomp control unit and move on to getting this baby running!

Thanks to everyone who helped me with this issue.  I will continue to be an active member of this forum.

The best site on the web.

I'm not positive about this, but based on the wiring diagrams it looks like the decomp controller for an '86 may be different from later ones. You might want to take a close look at the part numbers, or, if you go to a dealer, ask the parts guy about that. And hope he knows what he's talking about Wink

IT RUNS !! Cheesy  Cool

After getting the decomp magic box operating I put on the tank with my new Raptor petcock on and some fresh gas, gave it a shot of juice and bam it took right off.
I can't believe it!
I really thought at the  it would run pretty rough.  After all it hasn't been run in a couple years.  Not only did it start but it stays running with almost no popping.
I then shut it off, put the seat on and ran it down the block!
Everything worked like it was supposed to and it went through the gears like it was made that way!
Needless to say I'm ecstatic!  Now I can fall back and enjoy it for the summer.
This coming winter I hope to make a few modifications to make it more mine, but for this year I just want to enjoy being back on two wheels.

Anyway, a big thank you to this web site and those who shared their knowledge with me.  I hope to return the favor sometime. Smiley

Good plan. Put some miles on it before you start changing stuff. Then you'll have a better idea of what you want to change, and why. And welcome to the club Smiley
