Throttle cable length
06/17/14 at 11:31:03

Need to replace my throttle cable with a longer one, (by 2").
Does anyone know how long the OEM cable is? I don't want to take the existing one off until my new one arrives.
Thanks in advance. Wink

Nobody?
Guess I'll have to take the bike down for a few days to get the cable swapped out then.

I searched but couldn't find the length. You might wait about another hour, someone will know of hand.

Do you have drag bars or pullbacks. If you have drags(flat) order a cable for the pullbacks(buckhorns).

I always forget the buckhorns have longer cables.

I had buckhorns but put 12" apes on it. It functions Ok but is pretty tight so I want to get a cable about 2" longer.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I can't believe nobody has this info.
I'll pull the tank and measure it myself. When I get the length I'll post it for all to see.
Thanks anyways to all that replied.

Check out a couple of my old posts about changing out my bars and the issues/findings regarding the cables.

If I get a chance tonight I will measure the cables that I have in a box in the garage and post my findings later or in the morning.

Sorry it's a little late, but I hope this helps someone either now or at a later time.  Cool

So, I dug through my box of extra supplies/take off items and such and found 3 cables to measure:

#1 Original Throttle Cable from my 2005 S40 that was stock with DRAG BARS
#2 Original Throttle Cable from someone else's Savage that they told me came with PULLBACK BARS
#3 Original Clutch Cable from my 2005 S40 that was stock with DRAG BARS

#2 on LEFT #1 on RIGHT

Not sure how many times we'll have to say this, but, the factory throttle cable is an oddball...

Clutch cable for a Kawasaki VN750 or VN800A (and only the A, not the B or Drifter) will work with up to 15" rise bars in the stock buckhorn risers.

Lancer can get you the correct throttle cable, and it will be a Barnett instead of a cheap garbage Motion Pro guaranteed to break pseudo-cable.

Dimensions on cables for stock bikes with VM carbs, which will be slightly different than cables for stock CV carbs, are in the 38 3/4"-39 1/4" range.
Don't know if that is helpful but there it is.  I do not have the factory dimensions.
