Cable leading to top of head from under gas tank
06/16/14 at 23:41:16

What is this thing? Mine came loose and slides laterally and is leaking all my oil. There looks to be a bolt hole that set screws it?

I can't find any information on this.

The only cables we have are throttle, clutch, and speedometer.  All of these pass under the gas tank, but none of these cables go to the head.  Speedo could let you wick oil, but no set screw.  Are you talking about your clutch actuating arm going into the right side cover?  Is that sliding out and leaking oil?

Sorry man, but we need more info.  Pics would help, too.

Edit: Added pic to clarify.

yea, sounds like hes talking about the decompression mechanism

You can get rid of it and do something like the RYCA thumb actuated decompression lever

Yeah, it's the decomp valve. Right now its sliding laterally and leaking, and I think I found the right diagram online and the right screw. Just wanna make sure.

This is a setscrew I'm thinking of right? I don't see any other way it couldnt be it.

Yep, decomp.  not a setscrew (all thread, no head) just a bolt that locks that shaft in place in a half round groove.  There's a seal in there, but if it's slid out, the half round groove is probably riding in it so there's nothing to seal against.  Push it back, put the bolt back in or get another if it's still there and worn out.

Awesome. The bolt is completely gone. Am I safe using some red loctite on it? Also, where is the best place to get a new one? Dealer?

Not RED! Get Blue, medium hold.. You put red on it & youll need heat to get it loose,

Good call everyone on the decomp cable.  Sorry if I added any confusion to the mix.  I guess I need to get home and get my hands on my bike already.   Undecided  9 months has been far too long!

Versy and JOG will steer you right.  Definitely want the blue loctite.

I don't know if there's no thread where the shaft is, but I would think so.

it's $1 at partsoutlaw, but shipping will certainly not make it worth it.

I'd go to the dealer unless it's more than $5

then I'd order online, just add a bucket full of filters and such.

Ace Hardware has a HUGE section of metric bolts and hardware. Maybe check there?
