Does anyone recognize this spring
06/14/14 at 17:21:55
I'm doing some maintenance on my new S40 tensioner, oil change, valve adjust, carb jet etc and found this spring on the ground. I have been pretty meticulous about labeling baggies with bolts parts etc but found this spring on the ground and can't figure out if it goes to the bike or something else.

That's yer' tensioner spring...
It belongs inside the adjuster housing...
...(I figured it out from you saying you're working on your tensioner)...
I feel so clever...
...
Either that, or you broke yer' pen...
...
...(the little tiny spring loads the ratchet pawl... the larger goes behind the adjuster and pushes it outward)...
Yours is the bigger one...

Well I still think I might put the correct spring back in. My other question is I welded the extra piece on the end and added a new hole. Plunger is pushed in all the way and adjuster is very tight against the chain. My 1st thought is that everything is as it should be and if it wasn't tight it would just ratchet out to become tight. I have spun the engine from the other side and it turns fine. Does everything sound like it should be OK?

It should be tight,.. but that spring pressure is nothing compared to the engine torque...
A floppy chain would be receiving constant jerks from engine torque...
I'd use the original spring, just to be sure...
