Helmet fell apart...

HJC CL-21 police style half helmet.

Visor shattered this afternoon when I went to switch from small visor to flip down face shield.

Lining fell out. 3 little tiny dots of glue to hold the polystyrene inside the polycarbonate shell. Put the liner back in, went to work. Put the liner back in, rode home. Have to track down my GOOD spray adhesive and really glue the thing back together.

Helmet was made in Korea in 2004.

I have a Snell Foundation 1968 approved half helmet from Japan that is structurally flawless other than the cloth liner... and a 1997 Made in Colorado real police helmet that just needs new fabric... My "Fulmer" (Made in China) 3/4 shell from 2005 is junk, my Bell (Made in USA) 3/4 shell from the early 1970s just needs new fabric.

No more cheap junk Chinese or Korean made helmets. Time for you folks to check yours out, odds are if it is more than a couple years old the glue is bad or the shell is deforming...

Hi WD, same thing here, "modern" helmets are often junk after 4, 5 years max,
while "vintage" helmets may suffer wear and tear from use, but are structurally much hardier.

Unfortunately, vintage helmets will not pass the stringent survival tests and will shatter your skull...  Tongue

Still... I wish I had never thrown my 1984 Nava racing helmet, the velvety liner was trash, but the shell was fiberglass and the padding fitted me like a glove.
You could sleep with it on, it was that comfortable !  Cool

My HJC modular has changeable liner and pads. Its bulky as heck, and full faced when in the down position, but i am very fond of it and use it while riding the sportbike or if it is going to rain when i ride the savage.

I bought a chinese modular that dropped the whole front quarter while riding (I peed a little)  Shocked

turned around, piked it up, only the face shield damaged but a new shield costs 75% of the entire helmet  Roll Eyes
