, anyone thinking igniter box?

If it was a bad igniter I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be getting a spark.

Maybe the decompression solenoid is stuck and the cable is pulling on the lever. Or maybe the cable is just dry/frayed and is stuck. If it's holding the exhaust valves open the bike won't start.

true, but it will clatter.

Not that it's the problem, but... bypass both the clutch and sidestand cut-outs... just to be sure...
You can reconnect once you get it figured out if you want...

The thing here is that the starter is spinning... so both safeties are ok.
if no spin then 1 or both are bad.

If you are still stuck, start from square 1 and reconfirm everything.

spark, gas, air.

Your 1st problem is the battery, get a new 1.

It's a brand new battery

Now like I said I suck at electrical but could the ignitor still send a signal to the coil just not at the right time? It seems like a timing issue but I don't know how I could check that it's not like it's adjustable. I'm so lost, any one want to buy a very pretty boat anchor? I will start back at the beginning and triple check everything

When the stator wires crossed and shorted, is there any possibility that the polarity was reversed?

I haven't a clue, any idea what to do to check? They looked like they had been that way for a while

I would check the timing.

loaded question... how do check the timing?

answer... you can't, either it sparks at the right time or it don't.

Spark at the right time and the valve must open and close at the right time too.  One with out the other and the engine will run poorly or not at all.  I worked on a non-motorcycle engine that ran well, and then didn't and then ran well again.  This went on for some time and the exhaust pipe would get cherry red.  Pulled the flywheel to find the drift key was sheared.

The pipe was cherry due to the sticky needle on my old carb, I replaced it with a much nnewer rebuilt one, cured the excessively rich problem

Having spark when the plug is out & laying against the block is one thing, having spark when the starter is pulling against compression is another. To KNOW youve got spark, leave the plug in, pull the wire & stick another plug in it & then test.

If you haven't changed the plug, you might have one of those rare ones that fires just fine but does nothing under compression.

I've only had a couple of those in my life and they are usually a pain...you take it out and check it...fine...put it back and start hunting something else.  Finally, you just put something else in there for the heck of it and it starts right up.

Not saying that's your problem, just another something to think about.

Hope you get it fixed soon. It's a shame to miss out on good riding weather cause it won't run.

I would think about investing in a compression test gauge setup which is a nice tool to have when trouble shooting these type starting issues. I got Mine from O'Reilly Auto Supply. Seems like it was $30-35. You may already have one though.

At some point maybe it just makes sense to take it to a mechanic and have them troubleshoot the wiring and starting system. I've chased electrical issues on cars for days/weeks and had a shop find the problem in a half hour for 50 bucks. It's like me with construction... people ask me all the time in the drywall aisle at Home Depot "How do you patch a hole?". Well, I have 33 years of experience and there's just some things you can't teach someone in 10 minutes. I used to tell my employees: There's a difference between 30 years of experience and one year of experience 30 times.   Wink

Alright here's the update, borrowed a friends compression tester to verify compression is within 145-200 psi we have 60, crap! Let's hope it's gas washed, pour some mystery oil in the plug hole, cranks over and runs beauty! Awesome! Head to the parts store to grab some oil so I can change the oil and get the diluted crap out of it. Come back and try it again cranks and cranks and cranks, no fire. Well maybe it's really diluted, I change the oil and adjust the valves for the heck of it. It cranks and cranks and cranks. Now I'm thinking rings? It had sat for over ten years before I got it and I suspect that the cyl wall may have rusted and when I got it last year I only put 300 miles on it and that may have worn the rust off and now it's only holding good compression when I put oil on top of the cyl.  :'( Undecided

I have never seen any running engine suddenly develop a lack of compression due to worn out rings or a bad cylinder....unless it was run low on oil and scored.  When the cylinder or rings are worn it normally develops an oil burning problem long before it develops a compression problem.
