Since each of the two parts of the stock adjuster seems to be bolted to something, how does it damage the engine when it falls apart? It looks as if only the spring will wind up somewhere that could gum up the works. Just curious.

If that doesn't happen, then the chain can get jammed or thrown off.
cam gets outta time with the crank and a fight breaks out and the aftermath aint pretty.
