Direct me please
06/07/14 at 16:23:25

I see lots of how to on the Cam chain but nothing seems to say what the symptoms are of needing to make an adjustment.
Would someone link me to identifying weather or not you need to make and Adjustment.

I have a 97 savage with just under 18k. I'm the 2nd owner and I'm fairly sure it has not been looked at ever. From what I am reading it probably should be.

Thanks in advance as always.

Unfortunately you'll have to open it up.  I'd pm Verslagen and get a tensioner on the way.  It is not difficult, this is a real good resource.

So there is no noticeable telltales that indicate weather work should be done right away?
The bike is running super sweet right now but I have done a lot of work on it since I have become a member here. (Suggested oil, petcock amongst other things)
So I was wondering if there is something specific that I should be looking for so I know that I can wait to do it at my leisure, lets say, a week that I know will be bad weather and just do it then.  Huh

Thanks again

Yeah, if it is real bad it will make a very distinct slapping /rattling noise under the clutch cover.  It is not difficult task.  Read that thread thoroughly, print a copy, you'll need all the tools listed.  Also, a piece of cardboard will help so you can remember which clutch bolt goes where.  Draw a basic diagram and poke them through as you take them off.  Wait for a good day and have at it.

If you think its time, dont start it.. Thats nearly always an engine fatality if the tensioner spits,,

Any unusual noise you need to search it out for the cause.
Get yourself a mechanics stethoscope.

Specifically for the cam chain thro, usually it's a tapping just behind the oil filter cover at the top of the clutch cover.  you can feel it with your hand.
