While nothing is too good for my girl, am I wasting money with the high octane fuel?

Not only wasting money... it ain't even good for our engine...
Just use regular... ...

'Octane' is different than, "Crap Gas".

'Crap Gas' =  gas that has 10%  +/-, ethanol, in it.

Depending on when your ICE, (Internal combustion engine),
was made/designed.    'Crap Gas', may not be good for it.

If it is, 'new', then it is designed for  the, 'Crap Gas'.
If not, then use, ONLY, "Non Oxy Gas'.

In  ANYTHING, 2 cycle, (Mix oil with gas), use ONLY,  'Non Oxy", gas.
If anything older than 1990, use ONLY,  "Non Oxy" gas.
If ANYTHING  Older than 1980 Use, ONLY,  'Non Oxy" gas,
WITH,  a added Lead Substitute to it !!!!!

To do otherwise, (After replacing hosed/diagrams/seals)
Their will be a noticeable performance difference,
in speed/MPG/life/performance/power, of the ICE unit!

Better to suffer the performance of 91/92 Octane, (Non-Oxy)
(Would be great to have a  'Non-Oxy 87-88 gas)
Than to run  the, 'Crap Gas'.

If  No Choice, and your ICE is newer than 1990.
Just use the,   (Crap-Gas)  10% +/-,  87 Oct.

The only real damage you will do by running a premium fuel in the Savage....shows up in your wallet.  The engine will not realize any benefit from running a premium (93 octane) fuel......but it won't hurt anything.

The Savage runs just fine on regular (87 octane)....it was made to run on it.

And yes....I would prefer not to run 10% ethanol fuel.....but that really isn't a possibility on a bike that I intend to drive around enjoy daily.  Gas stations that sell fuel without ethanol are hard to find.....you have to seek them out.

I found an ethanol free station 15 miles away. Sounds like a good reason to go for a ride.

If your bike is running too lean.....a higher octane could help to compensate for that condition.  And if the premium fuel happened to be ethanol free....that is a big plus.

I have a Wiseco in my bike and I use Premium pump gas and everything around here has 10% ethanol.  Out of curiositiy I added about 1/3rd 100LL Avgas and another 1/3rd Sunoco 96 Octane leaded race fuel for one tank.  The bike ran reallly smooth and quiet.....not sure what it did to mileage or power output....it felt slower.

Somebody here, a few years back... tore the head off a bike that had been running premium and found it very carboned up...
After cleaning and running regular for a much longer time, he tore down again and it was much cleaner...

This makes some sense... Premium fuel has a slower burn rate to reduce preignition and prevent knock... in a low compression engine, the temps aren't high enough for a complete burn,.. thus, carbon build-up...

Anyway... not sure if it's scientifically accurate,.. but we definitely don't need it,.. so why use it?...


PS.. if I remember correctly,.. the first teardown was due to some carbon dislodging and blocking a valve open...
Not %100 sure on that... memory ain't what it was, and it weren't much to start... ...
