Remember the gov't bought all that .40cal?

US Dept. of Agriculture Releases Request for .40 Cal Sub-Machine Guns

The USDA has put out a public request for bids to supply the agency with .40 caliber sub-machine guns.

Here is the full request as it was found on FBO.gov (spelling errors left intact).

   Synopsis:
   Added: May 07, 2014 2:03 pm
The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Inspector General, located in Washington, DC, pursuant to the authority of FAR Part 13, has a requirement for the commerical [sic] acquisition of submachine guns, .40 Cal. S&W, ambidextrous safety, semi-automatic or 2 shot burts [sic] trigger group, Tritium night sights for front and rear, rails for attachment of flashlight (front under fore grip) and scope (top rear), stock-collapsilbe [sic] or folding, magazine – 30 rd. capacity, sling, light weight, and oversized trigger guard for gloved operation. NO SOLICITATION DOCUMENT EXISTS. All responsible and/or interested sources may submit their company name, point of contact, and telephone. If received timely, shall be considered by the agency for contact to determine weapon suitability.

   Contracting Office Address:
1400 Independence Ave., SW, Room 40-E J.L. Whitten Fed Bldg
   Washington, District of Columbia 20250
   Place of Performance:
USDA, Office of Inspector General – Investigations
   1400 Independence Avenue, SW
   Washington, District of Columbia 20250
   United States

The United States Forest Service, and its law enforcement division does fall under control of the USDA, and one would think this would be the most likely landing place for these firearms.

However, there is no mention of the Forest Service in the solicitation request, leaving questions as to who these machine guns will be going to.

From Wikipedia,

The U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement & Investigations unit (LEI), headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a federal law enforcement agency of the U.S. government. It is responsible for enforcement of federal laws and regulations governing national forest lands and resources. All Law Enforcement Officers and Special Agents Receive their training through Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC).

Operations are divided into two major functional areas:

Law enforcement: uniformed, high-visibility enforcement of laws
Investigations: special agents who investigate crimes against property, visitors, and employees

Uniformed Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs) enforce federal laws and regulations governing national forest lands and resources. LEOs also enforce some or all state laws on National Forest Lands. As part of that mission, LEOs carry firearms, defensive equipment, make arrests, execute search warrants, complete reports, and testify in court. They establish a regular and recurring presence on a vast amount of public lands, roads, and recreation sites. The primary focus of their jobs is the protection of natural resources, protection of Forest Service employees and the protection of visitors. To cover the vast and varied terrain under their jurisdiction, they use Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptors, special service SUVs, horses, K-9 units, helicopters, snowmobiles, dirt bikes, and boats.

Special Agents are criminal investigators who plan and conduct investigations concerning possible violations of criminal and administrative provisions of the Forest Service and other statues under the United States Code. Special agents are normally plainclothes officers who carry concealed firearms, and other defensive equipment, make arrests, carry out complex criminal investigations, present cases for prosecution to U.S. Attorneys, and prepare investigative reports. All field agents are required to travel a great deal and usually maintain a case load of ten to fifteen ongoing criminal investigations at one time. Criminal investigators occasionally conduct internal and civil claim investigations.

My favorite part is how they refer to a submachinegun as defensive equipment. Grin Grin Grin

I never called for citizens to stock up and guns and ammo or take up arms against the government.
I merely posted an article that quoted the USDA's interest in purchasing fully automatic or "burts [sic]" weapons with all the features, if not more, than they tried to ban, and successfully in CT and CA banned, the citizens from owning while quoting the president* stating that American's do not require such arms. What do the U and the S stand for in USDA anyway?

*Lowercase "P" on purpose.

If I recall the ammo the goverment bought ( or placed a bid for) was hollowpoint. Which cant be used in war... but can be used on citizens. Guess they need more guns to shoot the fancy ammo out of. Next time you litter you might just get shot for your offense!

Has anyone else noticed how many agencies are now armed? Whats going on here? WHY do all these goob agencies need all these weapons? The decision makers have to have some reason. They have to see a need, a time coming when theyll NEED such weaponry in order to accomplish their "mission". The IRS, Dept. of Education, USDA, SS, NOAA, DHS, There has to be a reason.. now, using basic logic & common sense, & knowing what guns are used for, lets step away from all preconceived notions & THINK for a moment.. WE have an economy that is in the tank & we have a population that is slowly turning away from believing everything theyre told to believe by the media. Even Hillary has admitted that theyre Losing the information war. David Rockefeller has stated that more people are politically aware now than ever. The number of people who simply accept the smear programs against other nations are dwindling. The media tried to paint Syria as Dangerous & needing a good invasion to "spread democracy".. The People said NO.. & that was the first time in my memory that the voice of the people was united enough & loud enough to make them change course.
The only reason I can see for all these weapons is to quell an uprising.
IF theyre that concerned about an uprising, then theyre concerned that things are gonna get BAD here.
If someone has a different idea that explains why these goob agencies
need all these weapons & bullets, then please do share.

NC, the facts are, theyre buying guns & ammo. They arent buying them to ship out & go to war abroad. So, either theyre expecting an invasion, at which time we have a military whose job it is to defend our country, OR, theyre preparing for a serious social/economic time of unrest. Any kind of sarcasm about the People need to arm up isnt actually helpful. PLease, explain why theyre buying guns,, or just deny it, Thats for anyone, not JUst NC.

I enjoy taking a long term historical look, coupled with a bit of logic, at things.

The USDA was founded in 1862.
The USDA never needed machine guns before.
Now they do.
What's changed? Why do they believe they need them now when they didn't before?

There it is in a nutshell. Plain as day to anyone who is paying attention.

The only bright spot I can see in all of this is that if the government is that paranoid then they must realize that if they push too far too fast then The Sh*t Is Going To Hit the Fan. Whatever your feelings about the whole Bundy clusterf**k are, I think it's pretty obvious that the response to it was a bit of a wake up call to the powers that be. I think the attention that whole deal got surprised them.  So they will keep trying "under the radar" stuff for a while yet. Like this:

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/may/18/targeted-gun-sellers-say-high...

Gun retailers are now the same as porn sellers and the sellers of drug paraphernalia as far as the FDIC is concerned.

I am the son of a soldier and civil law enforcer, gave his all to his family until he wore out and passed..

I take no satisfaction in saying, our once great govt is preparing to quell a domestic uprising. Think Assad was evil for shooting citizens? What do you think our royals will do when threatened?
