Rear brake pedal

While cleaning up and looking for oil leaks I noticed the spring is just hanging there. It looks like it needs to go somewhere to provide back tension I'm thinking, any ideas?

There's a hook that  hooks the brake lever, pulling it back down. Then, there's the tail, that wedges behind the upper heat shield bolt. I think the heat shield may have to come off to positions this.

Edit: corrected pull direction.

the "U" shaped end of the spring obviously goes around the brake lever.
the other end of the spring has a slight bend and it goes against the upper rear side of the tubular black frame (bolt goes through this)

note:
finger pressure is enough to push the spring but be careful not to trap the spring end between frame and foot peg bracket. When you have it right, the spring's end is against the black frame but you can still push it with your finger
